Free Report - How AI Is Helping Bookkeepers Deliver More Value
Artificial intelligence is changing the way bookkeepers work, reducing time spent on manual tasks and creating new opportunities to focus on client relationships, insights and advisory support. But while technology is helping improve efficiency, new research suggests that much of the value bookkeepers provide still goes unrecognised and, in many cases, unpaid.
The Hidden Advisers report, produced by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) and supported by Dext, explores how AI is reshaping the profession and how bookkeepers are using the time they gain.
The research found that 78% of bookkeepers have adopted AI tools, demonstrating how rapidly technology is becoming embedded in everyday bookkeeping processes. More importantly, 84% proactively share insights with clients, while 64% spend at least an hour each month providing guidance that isn't separately billed.
The findings highlight an important shift within the profession. Bookkeepers are increasingly acting as trusted advisers, helping clients understand their finances, identify opportunities and make better business decisions. While AI can automate processes, it cannot replace the experience, judgement and client relationships that underpin high-quality bookkeeping services.
The report explores how firms can better communicate, recognise and capture the value they already provide.
